The Earth Observing System (EOS) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is a c
ritical component of the overall EOS mission and NASA's Mission to Pla
net Earth. The EOS SAR is a multi-frequency, multi-polarization radar
capable of the global monitoring of key quantitative measurements of g
eophysical and biophysical parameters. The role of the SAR in global m
onitoring will be discussed, emphasizing the geophysical product varia
bles which will be generated and used in global hydrologic, biogeochem
ical, and energy cycle models.
