Abstract
High-spin states following deep-inelastic multi-nucleon transfer have been studied using the Gammasphere array at LBNL. A Ni-64 beam was inc ident upon a thick Pb-208 target, leading to the population of more th an 130 different nuclei. The strongest channels correspond to nuclei c lose to the projectile and target, although transfer of up to 50 nucle ons has been observed. New high-spin states in neutron-rich Fe, Ni and Zn have been observed, indicating that this type of reaction provides a means of exploring neutron-rich nuclei which cannot normally be rea ched by heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reactions. The data has been sear ched for superdeformed (SD) states in the A = 190 - 200 region, but as yet no evidence for their presence has been found.
