Abstract
Fluorescence emitted from the pyrene chromophore is quenched by an ele ctric field and both intra- and intermolecular electron transfer proce sses from N, N-dimethylaniline (DMA) to the excited state of pyrene ar e suggested as being enhanced by an electric field in a methylene-link ed compound of pyrene and DMA doped in a PMMA polymer film. Exciplex f luorescence, which appears as a result of photoinduced electron transf er, shows field-induced enhancement and quenching, depending on the co ncentration. Quenching of the exciplex fluorescence observed at high c oncentrations is attributed to a photocarrier generation. (C) 1998 Els evier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
