N. Ohta et al., EXTERNAL ELECTRIC-FIELD EFFECTS ON THE FLUORESCENCE OF METHYLENE-LINKED PYRENE AND N,N-DIMETHYLANILINE DOPED IN A PMMA POLYMER FILM, Chemical physics letters, 292(4-6), 1998, pp. 535-541
Fluorescence emitted from the pyrene chromophore is quenched by an ele
ctric field and both intra- and intermolecular electron transfer proce
sses from N, N-dimethylaniline (DMA) to the excited state of pyrene ar
e suggested as being enhanced by an electric field in a methylene-link
ed compound of pyrene and DMA doped in a PMMA polymer film. Exciplex f
luorescence, which appears as a result of photoinduced electron transf
er, shows field-induced enhancement and quenching, depending on the co
ncentration. Quenching of the exciplex fluorescence observed at high c
oncentrations is attributed to a photocarrier generation. (C) 1998 Els
