Abstract
Extensible applications extend system behavior but often at the expens e of system security. The authors developed their Minimal i386 Softwar e Fault Isolation Tool to protect applications from end-user extension s written in otherwise unsafe languages. They demonstrate how MiSFIT t ransforms unsafe x86 assembler code into safe code, and they discuss f uture research possibilites for further improving MiSFT.
