The Kohn variational principle and the (con-elated) hyperspherical har
monics technique are applied to study the n-H-3 and p-He-3 scattering
at zero energy. Predictions for the singlet and triplet scattering len
gths art obtained for nonrelativistic nuclear Hamiltonians including t
wo- and three-body potentials. The calculated n-H-3 total cross sectio
n agrees well viith the measured value, while some small discrepancy i
s found for the coherent scattering length. For the p-He-3 channel, Ih
s calculated scattering lengths are in reasonable agreement with the v
alues extrapolated from the measurements made above 1 MeV.
