High resolution IUE spectra of SN 1993J in M81 show the existence of s
everal clouds on the line of sight. These include local galactic gas a
t 0 km s-1, gas in M81 at -130 km s-1, a cloud in the halo of the Milk
y Way near -45 km s-1, and an intergalactic cloud near +140 km s-1. Ar
guments for each of these locations are given. There is little gas in
M81 in front of SN 1993J and no detectable CIV at or near -130 km s-1.
The gas of the halo of the Milky Way shows a large amount of CIV and
SiIV. The intergalactic cloud shows a large velocity width extending f
rom +100 km s-1 to +200 km s-1 and is very prominent in the absorption
lines of AlIII, SiIV, and CIV. It may be related to energetic events
in the M81 group of galaxies.
