Dm. Lynch et al., CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT OF PLANTAR FASCIITIS A PROSPECTIVE-STUDY, Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, 88(8), 1998, pp. 375-380
A randomized, prospective study was conducted to compare the individua
l effectiveness of three types of conservative therapy in the treatmen
t of plantar fasciitis. One hundred three subjects were randomly assig
ned to one of three treatment categories: anti-inflammatory, accommoda
tive, or mechanical. Subjects were treated for 3 months, with follow-u
p visits at 2, 4, 6, and 12 weeks. For the 85 patients who completed t
he study, a statistically significant difference was noted between gro
ups, with mechanical treatment with taping and orthoses proving to be
more effective than either anti-inflammatory or accommodative modaliti
es.
