A trigonometric curve is a real plane curve where each coordinate is g
iven parametrically by a truncated Fourier series. The trigonometric c
urves frequently arise in various areas of mathematics, physics, and e
ngineering. Some trigonometric curves can also be represented implicit
ly by bivariate polynomial equations. In this paper, we give algorithm
s for (a) simplifying a given parametric representation, (b) computing
an implicit representation from a given parametric representation, an
d (c) computing a parametric representation from a given implicit repr
esentation. (C) 1998 Academic Press.
