Abstract
In this paper, one-dimensional nonlinear electromagnetic waves propaga ting in a power-law nonlinear dielectric medium with losses and gains are studied. The analytical solutions are obtained for the first time. The results show that the inserted filters introduce extra loss, as e xpected; however, extra gains may not compensate for the loss in such nonlinear waves. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
