W. Vishwanath et H. Lilabati, MICROBIOLOGICAL QUALITY OF FRESH AND SMOKED CLARIAS-BATRACHUS OF MANIPUR, National Academy Science Letters, 21(3-4), 1998, pp. 62-64
Fresh and smoked Clarias batrachus avaialble in Imphal market of Manip
ur during June, July and August 1995, were analysed for microbiologica
l quality. Total count (CFUg) of bao teria, fungi, Staphylococcus aure
us and faecal Streptococci of fresh and smoked fish were 10(6) vs. 10(
8), 10(3) vs. 10(5), 10(3) vs. 10(5) and 10(3) vs. 10(4) respectively.
Coliform organisms were detected in fresh, but not in smoked samples.
In both the samples pathogenic bacteria, E. Coli and Salmonella were
not deleted. Microbial counts were slightly more in smoked fish.
