The Rayleigh Taylor stabilty in a finite thickness layer of a viscous
fluid bounded below by a densely packed thick porous thick porous laye
r and above by a rigid surface has been studied subject to linear anal
ysis using approximations in efect similar to lubrication and Stokes a
pproximations. The problem is studied analytically. It is shown that t
he nature of the linear stability curve is controlled by the slip para
meter a and the thickness of the fluid layer h, while its shape is con
trolled by the ratio of the surface tension to the normal stress.
