EARTHQUAKES CAN BE PREDICTED

Earthquakes are the results of sudden fault motion that are due to pla te motion and their short-term prediction is difficult. However, earth quake prediction has been in practice in Greece for more than a decade by the so called VAN method. The method is based on detection of char acteristic changes in the geoelectric potential that appear prior to e arthquakes. Some promising indications have been obtained also in Japa n.
