Abstract
This article examines the new challenge of multiculturalism as express ed in the demand for group rights. The question is whether group right s erode the basic assumptions of political liberalism, namely, rationa lity and universality. The contention here is that they do not, if the response is sought within the left-liberal framework of autonomy-base d liberalism.
