Abstract
A very simple reductive system such as zinc in aqueous ammonia has bee n shown to be applicable for hydrodefluorination of some perfluoroaren es (hexafluorobenzene, octafluorotoluene, octafluoronaphthalene and de cafluorobiphenyl) under mild conditions. In all cases an ammonia conce ntration effect has been observed. Moreover, for octafluoronaphthalene , the presence of NH4Cl is of importance and for decafluorobiphenyl th is factor and the addition of an organic solvent to the aqueous ammoni a are significant.
