Abstract
We present a new approach to the renormalization procedure of a self-m ass correction (SMC) to the one-particle energy level in an arbitrary local stationary field. A scheme proposed is based on the analytical p roperties of the SMC and does not use the cut-off parameters, usually employed in the standard technique. It is shown that the renormalized part of a SMC may be expressed by a convergent one-fold dispersion-lik e integral, which, together with a discrete spectrum contribution, giv es the Lamb shift of the level considered.
