A MIR, HREELS, XPS and AES study of adsorption on very thin films of s
ilice is presented here. Two different types of SiO2 films, twenty A t
hick, were examined : a native oxide film and a ''chemically prepared'
' oxide film obtained by dipping in HCl-H2O2 aqueous solution. The lat
ter being cleaner, less contaminated with carbon, shows a stronger rea
ctivity with the amino alcohol. Vibrational spectra enabled us to iden
tify that hydroxyles of the surface react with the alcohol group of th
e molecule, the amine groups of which are left unchanged.
