Abstract
Nanosecond laser flash photolysis has been used to study the kinetics of hydrogen abstraction by the triplets of acenaphthenequinone (3) and 1-acenaphthenone (4) from 1,4-cyclohexadiene, 2-propanol and phenols. Diketone 3 was found to be more reactive than monoketone 4. Hammett p lots for the reaction of these triplets with phenols gave similar reac tion constants (rho = -1.5) in acetonitrile solution. An Arrhenius plo t for the reaction of diketone 3 with 4-methoxyphenol gave E-a = 1.2 k cal mol(-1) and log A = 10.2. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All right s reserved.
