A new model reduction method for 2D discrete-time systems via the sing
ular perturbation approach is studied First, the boundary layer method
for 2D non-separable Roesser model is newly formulated, and an iterat
ive algorithm to calculate the asymptotic solutions based on reduced-o
rder models is proposed. Second a computation algorithm to solve 2D Ly
apunov equations is developed and a criterion for the Lyapunov stabili
ty test based on low-order 2D Lyapunov equations is provided. Finally,
in ol der to indicate the effectiveness of this method, a design exam
ple of 2D IIR digital filters is given.
