Energy consumption for adsorption of basic dyes on day was carried out
on laboratory scale using gas and mechanical stirring. Under external
mass transfer conditions, it was found that for removing color (X) in
the range 0.5 < X < 0.9, the obtained data can be correlated by the f
ollowing equations: for air under the conditions 60 < Q < 200 cm(3)/s:
E = 7.545Q(1.116)X(8.43) and for mechanical stirring under the condit
ions 330 < N < 1035 rpm: E = 29.288N(1.197)X(6.5). The study shows tha
t the energy consumption was substantially lower for air stirring, app
roximately 60 times lower, than for mechanical stirring under identica
l conditions of adsorption. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. Ail rights
