Abstract
Stress distributions ahead of crack tip for finite-width center cracke d specimens loaded by two segments of distributed stresses on the crac k are evaluated by means of the finite element method (FEM). Close agr eement between the numerical results and the stress distributions assu med using the force balance method (FBM) demonstrates the usefulness o f the corresponding geometric correction factor derived by FBM.
