The second session of the 5th CFN symposium in Stockholm 1997 on effec ts of toxicants on gene expression and intracellular signalling, was e ntitled ''Cell cycle and cell death''. Five scientists were invited to give talks about cell cycle and cancer (Anders Zetterberg), regulatio n of p53-induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis (Klas Wiman), calcium signalling and protease activation in apoptosis (Sten Orrenius). sign alling alterations and apoptosis in neurodegeneration (Pierluigi Nicot era) and neurotoxicity and neuroinvasion of prions (Adriano Aguzzi). 1 2 short communications from the poster session were also presented.
