Abstract
This paper describes the potential of using ionizing radiation to disi nfect sewage and sludge, as well as the possibilities of recycling nat ural resources and their by-products. Presented here is a brief review on the development of radiolytic treatment of wastewaters with electr on beam accelerators or Co-60 gamma sources to eliminate organic and b iological contaminants from liquid and solid wastes. Suitable radiatio n doses are suggested for each particular case. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scie nce Ltd.
