Ja. Grottum et al., IN-VIVO P-31-NMR SPECTROSCOPY AND RESPIRATION MEASUREMENTS OF ANESTHETIZED GOBY (POMATOSCHISTUS SP.) PREEXPOSED TO AMMONIA, Comparative biochemistry and physiology. Part A, Molecular & integrative physiology, 120(3), 1998, pp. 469-475
The effects of ammonia pre-exposure on high energy-phosphates and the
intermediary metabolism of the marine teleost Goby (Pomatoschistus sp.
) were studied by in vivo P-31-NMR with simultaneous respirometry. No
significant effect of ammonia pre-exposure was observed on oxygen upta
ke, muscle intracellular pH or high-energy phosphate metabolism. Brief
metomidate anaesthesia (10 mg l(-1)) followed by continuous light ana
esthesia (1 mg l(-1)) was used to prevent excessive swimming. This had
no effect on oxygen uptake, muscle intracellular pH or high-energy ph
osphate metabolism. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Inc. All rights reserved
