Abstract
Lipopolysaccharide of Salmonella haailenz was hydrolyzed and the produ cts separated. Native O-polysaccharide antigen was oxidised with sodiu m periodate followed by reduction with sodium borohydride. Native and chemically modified antigens were the subject of immunochemical studie s. Monoclonal antibodies against S. haarlem and polyclonal rabbit anti sera against S. haarlem, S. typhi and S. anatum bacteria were produced . The serological relationship between the lipopolysaccharide of Salmo nella bacteria belonging to the two different groups D-2 and E-1 was d emonstrated using haemagglutination reactions, inhibition of haemagglu tination and immunoblotting. Cross-reactions were observed in haemaggl utination reactions and in immunoblotting between antisera to S. haarl em, S. typhi and S. anatum. Factors 3,9,46 were found in the S. haarle m strain and the sugar composition for the epitopes of each factor was determined. (C) 1998 Federation of European Microbiological Societies .
