We report on the use of a multi-channel time-scaling (MCTS) technique
for estimating the accidental coincidences in a beta-gamma coincidence
experiment. Virtues of this technique are demonstrated by studying th
e beta-gamma coincidence counting of four samples of the radionuclides
Cs-134 and Ir-192 with activities ranging from 1500 to 5000 s(-1), Th
e dead time of each channel was the nonextending type and adjusted to
the same value in the region of 12-20 mu s. The true coincidence rates
obtained by means of the MCTS method are compared with those calculat
ed from the mathematical model derived bg Cox and Isham. (C) 1998 Else
