Abstract
We report on the use of a multi-channel time-scaling (MCTS) technique for estimating the accidental coincidences in a beta-gamma coincidence experiment. Virtues of this technique are demonstrated by studying th e beta-gamma coincidence counting of four samples of the radionuclides Cs-134 and Ir-192 with activities ranging from 1500 to 5000 s(-1), Th e dead time of each channel was the nonextending type and adjusted to the same value in the region of 12-20 mu s. The true coincidence rates obtained by means of the MCTS method are compared with those calculat ed from the mathematical model derived bg Cox and Isham. (C) 1998 Else vier Science B.V.
