E. Assaf et al., ACUTE PARANOID REACTION IN A PATIENT GIVEN CORTICOSTEROID-THERAPY - ACASE-REPORT, Annales medico-psychologiques, 156(7), 1998, pp. 502-504
Since 1952, we know that in certain cases corticotherapy causes psycho
logical secondary effects, nevertheless its causality though leaving l
ittle doubt, has never been scrupulously proven. Today, two schools of
thought offer a classification of these troubles, one following the u
sual categorization in psychiatry (ICD-10, DSM-IV), the other in a fun
ctional perspective, following a syndromic continuum. This case repres
ented a true need for reintroduction allowing with no possible objecti
on, to establish the critical role of corticotherapy in the emergence
of the acute psychotic episode. Furthermore, the absence of all other
psychiatric symptoms in weaker posology pleads favorably to the classi
c categorization procedure, and unfavorably to the functional approach
.
