Abstract
Optical system simulation of a field trial at 1.3 mu m is presented, i ncluding attenuation, fiber dispersion, fiber nonlinearity, amplificat ion by in-line semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA's), amplifier noi se and filtering. For the first time, simulation results in terms of s aturation effects due to SOA's are compared with measurements obtained during a field trial in the network of the Deutsche Telekom, and show very good agreement.
