Optimization of the conditions of electron probe microanalysis enables
a quantitative determination of boron and carbon in compounds of the
system Y-Ni-B-C. With this method boron deficiencies in YNi2B2C and so
lid solutions of carbon in Ni2B and YNiB4 were found. The number of bo
ron deficiencies correlates with the T-c values of the superconducting
transition in YNi2B2C.
