T. Kumar et al., TOXICITY OF COMBINATION OF FLUORIDE AND MONOCROTOPHOS 36-PERCENT SL TO WISTAR RAT, Journal of environmental biology, 19(4), 1998, pp. 305-311
Groups of Wistar rat were given 1/2 and 1/4 LD50 of fluoride (F), 1/2
and 1/4 LD50 of monocrotophos 36% SL(MCP), and a combination of F+MCP
(1/4 LD50 F+1/4 LD50 MCP), daily by oral intubation for 14 consecutive
days. Cumulative body weight gain decreased in group of rats given 1/
2 LD50 of F, and combination of F+MCP. None of the haematological para
meters was affected in any of the groups. Protein decreased in all the
treated groups, except in rats given 1/4 LD50 of F.GPx was not affect
ed in any group. A significant decrease in the weight of the spleen wa
s observed in rats given 1/4 ED50 of F and MCP. Since increase in GSH
has been stated as a result of the defensive mechanism against toxicit
y, it may be stated that Wistar rats were thus able to protect from th
e toxic effects of the doses of fluoride, monocrotophos 36% SL or the
combination of fluoride+monocrotophos employed in the study.
