Abstract
There are three possible phases (ferrite, pearlite, and martensite) in plain cal bon steels, a,ld the effects of the presence of these three phase combinations on wear resistance are little known. In the presen t work, a comprehensive study on adhesive wear resistance of plain car bon steels with various two phase combinations of ferrite, pearlite, a nd martensite was carried out. Based on the experimental data on the w ear resistance coefficient, a three-dimensional surface of wear resist ance coefficient is interpolated as a function of the percentage of ph ases present in plain carbon steels. A three-dimensional computer mode l is developed which interpolates the two-dimensional data into a thre e-dimensional surface. With the help of this model it is possible to i nterpolate the weal resistance coefficient for one, two, or. three pha se combinations for the ferrite, pearlite, and martensite phases prese nt in hypoeutectoid steels.
