High voltage direct current (HVdc) transmission controllers may not be
optimized for different operating conditions because they exhibit a f
ixed gain structure. A feasible alternative proposed to overcome this
limitation is the use of an adaptive regulator structure. This paper d
escribes the development of a self-tuning current regulator applied to
the rectifier station of an ac/dc system. The new scheme was physical
ly implemented on an analogue ac/dc simulator and the obtained results
have shown the superior dynamic performance of the adaptive regulator
when compared to the one obtained with the traditional fixed gain con
troller.
