Abstract
The crystal structure of alpha-[Bi(HEdta]. 2H(2)O is studied by X-ray diffraction (R = 0.058) to elucidate the stereochemical behaviour of t he lone electron pair in this compound. The coordination number of bis muth is 8, The polyhedron has an irregular shape. The O(4) atom of the protonated acetate arm is included in Bi coordination. A stereochemic al activity of the lone electric pair determines the difference in the Bi-O bond lengths.
