Vm. Glazov et al., SPECIFIC FEATURES OF THE LIQUID SILICON STRUCTURE STUDIED BY THE METHODS OF STATISTICAL GEOMETRY, Crystallography reports, 43(4), 1998, pp. 623-627
The molecular-dynamics model of liquid silicon constructed by us earli
er for 512 particles at the density 2515 kg/m(3) and the temperature 1
728 K has been studied by the Voronoi-Dirichlet method. The average va
lues and the statistical distributions of the main parameters of the V
oronoi polyhedra for the system are obtained. It is suggested to use a
s the most informative parameters the distributions of the volumes and
the nonsphericity coefficients of the thus obtained polyhedra. The sh
ort-range order in the melt has been studied by the method of rejectin
g the faces of small areas. The additional arguments in favor of a two
-state model of the melt associated with the presence in the melt of l
oose clusters (mainly with covalent bonding are discussed).
