Yi. Golovin et al., THE ROLE OF INTERNAL MECHANICAL STRESSES IN DISLOCATION-MOTION STIMULATED BY MAGNETIC-FIELD, Crystallography reports, 43(4), 1998, pp. 640-644
The dislocation motion stimulated by a magnetic-field pulse in NaCl cr
ystals is found to be associated with internal stresses. The magnetic
field changes the states of point defects and dislocation cores. The d
efects retain their new states after the magnetic field is turned off,
which facilitates the dislocation motion. Presumably, the state of po
int defects is susceptible to magnetic field because of the nonequilib
rium occupancy of the energy levels, which, in turn, is caused by inte
rnal strain.
