A cell culture of Taxus chinensis was found to produce taxoids in 4% y
ield (dry weight) after stimulation with methyl jasmonate. From the cu
lture medium and cell mass: 16 taxoids were isolated. The structures w
ere determined by two-dimensional gradient-enhanced DQF-COSY, HMQC, HM
BC, and NOESY NMR experiments. The major taxoids of the culture were e
sterified at C-14 of the taxoid ring system. Five new taxoids were ide
ntified as minor metabolites and were assigned as 2 alpha-benzoxy-4 al
pha,10 beta-diacetoxy-1 beta,7 beta,9 alpha-trihydroxytax-11-ene, 2 al
pha-benzoxy-4 alpha-acetoxy-1 beta,7 beta,10 beta-trihydroxy-9-dehydro
tax-11-ene, 2 alpha-benzoxy-4 alpha,7 beta,9 alpha,10 beta-tetraacetox
y-1 beta-hydroxytax-11-ene, 2 alpha,4 alpha,7 beta,9 alpha,10 beta-pen
taacetoxytax-11-ene and 2 alpha,5 alpha,7 beta,9 alpha,10 beta-pentaac
etoxy-4 beta,20-epoxytax-11-ene. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All ri
