Abstract
To satisfy the recent demand for the remarkably increasing yield of st rip in continuous tandem cold rolling, higher accuracy of strip thickn ess along the rolling direction is most important and effective. For t his purpose, automatic gauge control (AGC) systems must be optimized. For the No. 3 tandem cold mill (TCM) in the Chiba works, in which shee t gauge is mainly rolled, new AGC systems have been developed and appl ied without revamping the equipment of the mill, thus reducing the off -gauge length by half.
