Abstract
Irsid contributes to improve the competitivity of the companies of the Usinor Group by means of a few pilot equipments which have to be repr esentative of both processes and industrial fools. The studies made wi th these equipments are aimed to : - supply and validate knowledge mod els, - facilitate experimental trials without penalizing production to ols. This double aim is fully reached with the cold rolling pilot mill . This equipment, initially developed at Irsid Saint-Germain has been moved to Maizieres-les-Metz and is now located in the Ir sid rolling s ection bay. Prior to the beginning of its operation in October 1995, t his pilot mill has been heavily revamped so as to be able to simulate different cold-rolling industrial mills (tandem, temper-rolling, doubl e reduction, multi-rolls) together with their own lubrication modes (d irect application, ''recirculate'' mode, pure oil, cooling mode).
