Important results have been published during the last twenty years on
temper rolling and the mechanisms of this process can now be considere
d as properly understood. In the present review, it is considered that
flatness control is better achieved by other means than temper rollin
g and the emphasis is rather on yield point suppression and roughness
transfer Although there are interactions between the different functio
ns of temper rolling, a separate modelling of the rolling aspects and
of the roughness transfer seems To be more appropriate than the develo
pment of a general super-model.
