Abstract
Lifetimes have been measured for states in five superdeformed yrast ba nds in Pb193-196 using the Gammasphere spectrometer array. Centroid sh ifts and lineshapes of transitions showing attenuated Doppler shifts h ave been analyzed. Transition quadrupole moments are deduced for the f ive bands including, for the first time, bands of two odd-A Pb isotope s. The quadrupole moments are found to be remarkably similar for the y rast bands in Pb-194 (band 1), Pb-195 (bands 1 and 2) and Pb-196 (band 1)(Q(t) approximate to 20 b). However, for Pb-193 a smaller value, Q( t) = 17.3(7) b, is obtained. This can be explained in terms of the occ upation of the neutron N = 7 intruder orbitals. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scie nce B.V.
