Various problems are associated with formulations of gravity that seek
to move beyond the existing well-defined linear quantum field theory.
Thus far, however, if has not been seriously suggested that there may
be something wrong with the accepted picture of an interacting matter
field. This paper explores the possibility of constructing a theory o
f quantum gravity using the idea of a noninteracting matter field and
a hypothetical procedure for generating curvature statistically in a d
iscrete space.
