M. Geppi et al., MISCIBILITY OF FUNCTIONALIZED POLYOLEFINS WITH POLYAMIDE-6 AS DETECTED BY SOLID-STATE NMR, Macromolecular chemistry and physics, 199(9), 1998, pp. 1957-1963
Solid-state NMR was used to investigate the miscibility of LLDPE/polya
mide-6 blends. Two different blends B1 and B2, obtained with LLDPE onl
y and with LLDPE functionalized with diethyl succinate, respectively,
as well as their individual components, were characterized by means of
C-13 selective techniques. Measurement of H-1 spin-lattice relaxation
times in both laboratory and rotating frames allowed the miscibility
at a molecular level to be investigated for both blends: in BI the dom
ains of the different components are on average larger than 100-200 An
gstrom, whereas in B2, where two different fractions could be separate
d on the basis of their solubility in heptane, the average linear dime
nsions of the insoluble fraction are between 20 and 200 Angstrom.
