Abstract
The Lewis acid-promoted reaction of 3-butyl-7-methoxyphthalide with bu tanethiol gave the thiophthalide, which was converted to 6-amylsalicyl ic acid by alkaline hydrolysis and successive desulfurization by Raney Ni. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
