Abstract
While assessing chest pain in the emergency department, physicians mus t first estimate the probability of acute ischemic states in the patie nt. This first estimate is based on the patient's history physical exa mination, and electrocardiogram. Patients who meet the threshold for a cute cardiac ischemia are further evaluated to confirm or exclude this diagnosis, while other life-threatening factors are excluded.
