SPECIATION OF THALLIUM BY FLOW-INJECTION ANALYSIS WITH SPECTROFLUOROMETRIC DETECTION

A flow injection configuration is proposed for the speciation and dete rmination of thallium(I) and thallium(III) in aqueous media by spectro fluorimetric detection. Thallium(I) can be determined by measuring its fluorescence as TlCl32-. Thallium(III) also is determined after the r apid reduction of this ion by hydrazine into thallium(I). The construc tion of a suitable value in the manifold allows the successive determi nation of these ions at concentrations as low as 10(-7) M. The effect of potential interfering species on the determination was studied. The method was successfully applied to the determination of thallium in s ynthetic and real samples.
