CRUSH SYNDROME OF THE UPPER EXTREMITY

Crush syndrome is the systemic manifestation of prolonged muscle compr ession and compartment syndrome. Early diagnosis and aggressive treatm ent are necessary to prevent multiple organ failure and death. Prognos is is improved by early diagnosis and treatment, however, outcome of t he injured extremity is typically poor and Volkmann's contracture ofte n results.
