Hw. Gudenau et al., HIGH-TEMPERATURE FUEL GAS CLEANING AND REMOVAL OF ALKALIS USING MOLTEN SLAG, Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Part A, Journal of power and energy, 212(A3), 1998, pp. 151-158
Fuel gas cleaning is an important step in the development of coal-base
d combined cycle technologies. By integrating hot gas cleaning facilit
ies in the combined cycle power plant, higher operating temperatures c
an be achieved. Research is being carried out at the Institute of Ferr
ous Metallurgy, Technical University of Aachen, to develop a process f
or gas cleaning at temperatures above 1300 degrees C using a venturi s
crubber with molten slags as sorbents. This process offers simultaneou
s removal of particulate matter and alkali vapours in the gas stream.
The present paper deals with the particulate removal tests, with major
emphasis on investigations carried out to study the reaction between
molten slags of various compositions and alkali vapours. These investi
gations included thermochemical calculations as well as an experimenta
l reaction study.
