Abstract
Densities of L-glycine, L-alanine, and L-serine have been measured wit h an oscillating-tube densimeter at 298.15 K in water + dimethylformam ide (DMF) mixtures ranging from pure water to 45% DMF by mass. From th ese densities, apparent molar volumes and limiting apparent molar volu mes of the three amino acids in the mixtures have been calculated. Tra nsfer volumes were interpreted in terms of the structure-making or str ucture-breaking effects of these amino acids in the mixtures.
