Background: Acute haemorrhages of the adrenals in a septicemia with me
ningococci have been a well-known complication. They have also been de
scribed in neonates for septicemia due to E. coli, staphylococci and s
treptococci. Case: We observed a fulminant lethal septic disease with
bilateral acute haemorrhagic necrosis in a 14-day-old preterm infant.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa were isolated from blood culture. Discussion: T
his is the first report on Water-house-Friderichsen-syndrome triggered
by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
