Abstract
Numerical results for the ground states of the hydrogen and helium ato ms confirm the validity of the algebraic Schrodinger-Riccati equation. A quartic equation may be appropriate for points in the electron conf iguration space corresponding to electron positions close to the nucle us but a higher degree will be needed for the outer regions. The Schro dinger-Riccati equation is appropriate for implementation in parallel- computing facilities and its practical applicability will be enhanced by the availability of high-speed computers.
