D. Teodorovic, AIRLINE NETWORK SEAT INVENTORY CONTROL - A FUZZY SET-THEORY APPROACH, Transportation planning and technology (Print), 22(1), 1998, pp. 47-72
This paper considers the Airline Network Seat Inventory Control (ANSIC
) problem. The paper investigates the possibilities of using fuzzy set
theory in this field, due to the fact that uncertainty is one of the
basic characteristics of future demand. Future demand for different pa
ssenger itinerary-fare-class combinations is treated as a fuzzy number
. The proposed model attaches tremendous importance to the analyst mak
ing the final decision on booking limits. The heuristic algorithm deve
loped, belonging to the class of ''greedy'' algorithms, enables the an
alyst to generate a large number of different allocation plans in a re
latively short lime, analyze the obtained results and choose the final
allocation plan.
